Collaborative Communities in E-Learning - Online Facilitation
In the Collaborative Communities course, we learned about facilitating an online course and strategies for creating a collaborative community of learners. We used our facilitation strategies in both synchronous and asynchronous discussions. I was given the opportunity to collaborate with one of my classmates as we set up and facilitated a synchronous online chat. Through this, I learned about the challenges of trying to set up a synchronous chat with people from many different time zones as well as the benefits that this type of collaboration can offer. We were able to compare the benefits and challenges of each type of discussion tool and the impact each tool has on the community of learners in a course. In addition, we worked with a partner to create a tip sheet that might be used in an online course to explain a tool. In this activity, we learned about the importance that collaboration has in the creation of meaning in the learning process. We used peer feedback as a way to learn and grow as facilitators. Throughout this course, I worked with my colleagues to enhance our facilitation strategies as well as develop skills in creating a strong community of learners in an online course.
