EASyR Lesson Revision
For this activity, I rewrote an existing lesson that I had taught and incorporated the EASyR critical thinking methods. The EASyR acronym stands for:
Applying this strategy helps us to ensure that our students are using higher level thinking to make connections to the content as well as to be able to interact with the content on a deeper level to make learning more meaningful.
Using Digital e-Portfolios
This course is intended for teachers as they make that journey to using e-Portfolios with their students to allow the students to document their learning. At my previous school, teachers were asked to move from the use of "paper" portfolios to the use of e-Portfolios to support student led conferences. We are heading in that direction at my current school and I would like to approach this differently. This lesson will be written for an online course, but could also be done through blended learning or face-to-face, depending on your audience. In the original lesson, I include what our goals were and the process we went through while teaching the teachers about e-Portfolios. In the current lesson, I include how this process would be changed to be EASyR and to be used online.
When we went through this process at my previous school, we focused on very low-level objectives - simply an understanding of what an electronic portfolio is (understand) and how to create one with your students (apply). In the new course, this would be modified to use different learning strategies (more social and authentic learning) as well as to incorporate higher level thinking so the teachers develop their own understanding of the purpose and benefit of e-Portfolios for their students.
The previous process included a presentation on a description of e-Portfolios and the benefits. This was presented to the teachers and they asked questions at the end. Then, teachers worked with technology coaches to learn how to set this up with students and then went through this process in the classroom with their students, with the help of the tech coach, if necessary. The new lesson will include the teacher reading and processing a few articles. It will use discussion to clarify and deepen the teacher's understanding. The teacher will then apply their new knowledge by creating a e-Portfolio process that works for them.
- E (Evaluation)
- A (Analysis)
- S (Synthesis)
- R (Review/Reflect/Revise)
